Inner Window, a new project by songwriter/cellist Luke Janela, is releasing a reflective, exuberant album of cello compositions. The 11 track album “Hidden Weather” arrives in full on June 21, Summer Solstice.

“I found myself recording all cello instrumentals and reviewing during daily walks. I felt like the music moved like the storms over California and in myself at that time: uneven, loosely structured, ultimately moving and moving on. I felt grateful that difficult times passed that way.” Janela said.

The project gained momentum and retained the timelapsed storm metaphor. The wide range of several cellos build in rolling intensity. Some storms feel gentle while some are more intense.

“I wanted to make music that could be appreciated just as easily as background comfort or as focused listening.” Janela said.

The overall sound is a reflection of Janela’s background and influences: a classically trained cellist who has been deeply enmeshed in punk/electronic/alternative music creation.

“I found myself needing to listen to music by artists like Nils Frahm and Max Richter during the storminess of the past few years. It makes me excited that there is a new, unpretentious movement in composed music. I have been looking for new creative outlets as I’ve changed over time.”

Janela is the songwriter behind 15 solo albums, has fronted post-punk bands, composed for film and theater, performed and recorded with dozens of songwriters including Alela Diane, Aaron Ross and Chuck Ragan.
